E-Books For iPod: ManyBooks.net

August 12th, 2005

There’s a few tools out there which allow you to take text-based ebooks from places like Project Gutenberg or Black Mask (one of my favorites), and convert them to small chunks which can then be placed in the Notes folder of your iPod. My personal favorite is this one by Daniel Duris, which allows you to upload the files from your computer.

Yesterday, though, I found this great site called ManyBooks.net which has a ton of books already converted to the Notes format (as well as several other popular ebook formats).

The site is really well done, and allows you to browse by author, title, category, and even language. They have a “Recommended” section, advanced search, RSS feed, and popular download lists. By far, this is the best implementation of a site that offers free, public domain, ebooks I’ve ever used.

Go check them out, and while you’re there, check out some of my personal faves:

The Library

I've removed the little flash player that was here for now. It was causing some problems with the site in several browsers... okay... mostly it was IE6 because... well... I'm fairly sure that Microsoft hates me.

For now, you can view the Complete Library page, which is kind of a master list of every single track we've linked to.

Subscriptions

Subscribe to our feed, and keep up with all the tracks. The XML button below should work, no matter what type of reader you're using, and will even include the regular podcast. Let me know if you have any problems with it:
