CBS on iTunes
February 3rd, 2006
A couple days ago, CBS started offering downloads on their site of “Survivor: Panama-Exile Island.” These downloads had the unpopular “feature” that they would stop working 24 hours after downloading. They also have made several statements about not really wanting to offer downloads at the iTunes Music Store, and opted to go with Google Video.
Today, however, they confirmed that they are in talks with Apple to bring its programming to the iTunes Music Store.
Don’t be confused by the article. They’re still going to offer Survivor on their site. It will still be $1.99, and it will still break after 24 hours (why the network with the lowest viewership feels it can do this when the bigger players don’t is beyond me), and if all goes well with these talks, they’ll offer shows on the iTMS that won’t break. Whether this will include Survivor is still just speculation, but it is highly unlikely Apple will start offering up videos that die after certain period of time.
