Password Protecting a Podcast

February 22nd, 2006

Screen Cap of iTunes asking for passwordThis will probably only be of interest to a few of you, but it’s just too cool not to pass along.Potion Factory, the creators of Podcast Maker (a tool which I’m going to have to try out), have a great article up on how to password protect your podcast. It involves using .htaccess, works with iTunes, and can have multiple users with multiple passwords. Now why would you want to lock people out of your podcast? Really, there could be a lot of reasons. Maybe you want to make a podcast that only your closest friends would hear, or perhaps you could charge people for an account to subscribe to your podcast (don’t worry the iPN Podcast will always be free). This isn’t for the n00b, though. You can really screw things up using shell commands and .htaccess. Be careful, and read the other article they link to at JavaScriptKit.

The Library

I've removed the little flash player that was here for now. It was causing some problems with the site in several browsers... okay... mostly it was IE6 because... well... I'm fairly sure that Microsoft hates me.

For now, you can view the Complete Library page, which is kind of a master list of every single track we've linked to.

Subscriptions

Subscribe to our feed, and keep up with all the tracks. The XML button below should work, no matter what type of reader you're using, and will even include the regular podcast. Let me know if you have any problems with it:

Use this button if you'd like to subscribe to the iTunes Enhanced version of the podcast:
